Abstract
It is known that polymedication may be due to increased morbidity and mortality among patients. In the old people, the number of prescribed medications is an inadequate prescription marker. Three out of every 10 medications taken by the elderly population have no clear indication. Nearly 20% of patients receiving 10 or more drugs are 80 years old or older. The identification of inappropriate drugs (which can cause serious adverse effects), or avoidable (of proven or unnecessary efficacy) allows minimizing the associated risks and improving the patient's health.
