Abstract
A model of participatory health care takes into account the rights and duties of patients and promotes informed decision-making on the part of patients and health professionals who serve them. The rights of patients include access to accurate health information, so that the health system also has the responsibility to provide this objective and reliable information, as well as promote healthy habits among the population, reduce the use of interventions Doctors (diagnostics and therapeutics) that do not provide value and guarantee the financial sustainability of the health system for present and future generations. The duties of the patients, in turn, refer to the awareness of responsibility for their own state of health, adherence or compliance with the prescribed treatment and the failure to obtain the system more than is necessary when dealing with resources Limited, provided by the population as a whole, to meet multiple and growing needs
