Abstract
This document is the third in a series prepared by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Action, the Department of Health and the Catalan Food Safety Agency. Food-producing animals for human consumption can be treated throughout their productive life with chemical substances to prevent or cure diseases, which can lead to the presence of residues of these substances in foods that are they derive, such as meat, milk, eggs, etc., which can not be in any way detrimental to the health of consumers. That is why the necessary investigations must be carried out in order to control the proper use of these substances. This document aims to provide accurate knowledge of the research and control of waste and contaminating products in live animals and their products in Catalonia. This year, we wanted to make a concise document that collects the data for 2006. During 2006 there has been no change in the actions of the administrations responsible for the research of waste in animals and fresh meat of Catalonia, nor New legislation has been enacted that has affected the monitoring and control program. The intention is to read at a glance all the news that appeared in 2006, and avoid the repetition of information outlined in the previous documents.
