Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an inflammatory, chronic or chronically recurrent and non-contagious skin disease that frequently affects patients with a personal or family history of atopic diseases (asthma, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and / or food allergies). It is characterized by the presence of itching, eczematous lesions, xerosis and lichenification. The disease has a seasonal behavior, so it usually improves during the summer months and worsens in other seasons. AD begins in childhood in most cases, but can persist or debut into adulthood. In developed western countries, the prevalence in children is 10-20% and in adults 1-3%.
