Tractament i profilaxi postexposició de la infecció pel virus de la immunodeficiència humana de tipus 1 (VIH-1): informe d'avaluació de resultats
Abstract
Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) is a retrovirus with a high capacity for replication and mutation that especially infects CD4 T lymphocytes, and causes quantitative and qualitative immunodeficiency of these types of lymphocytes. Without proper treatment, most infected patients progress to an acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) that conditions an increase in comorbidities and eventually the death of patients. Treatment of HIV-1 infection has evolved rapidly and high-activity antiretroviral therapy (ART) has resulted in a significant decrease in mortality and morbidity, so that in developed countries HIV-1 infection is has become a chronic disease.
