dc.description.abstract | Cataract is a chronic disorder that affects a 4 % of men and a 6.3 % of women of 15 years old or more. More than 80 % of the cataracts are related
to age and are the main cause of visual impairment in the world. The three
main steps of the common cataract surgery are corneal incision, capsulorhexis and crystalline lens nucleus fragmentation with ultrasounds. After that,
a manual vacuum aspiration of the crystalline is performed and the intraocular lens is implanted. The femtosecond laser is seen as an innovation in the
management of the cataract complex surgery due to old age, in particular
in the three stages previously mentioned, and is an alternative to the current method: phacoemulsification. The aim of this report is to compare the
effectiveness, safety and cost-utility of using the laser and the conventional
ultrasound phacoemulsification. |
