Abstract
Urinary incontinence (UI) is a symptom of filling that is defined as the involuntary loss of urine produced during the filling phase of the bladder. Before initiating any treatment, it is necessary to assess whether the UI is transient and whether it is secondary to other pathologies or concomitant treatments of the patient in order to modify the underlying cause whenever possible. It is recommended to collect urinary symptoms objectively using the three-day urination diary and to determine the impact of symptomatology on quality of life using validated questionnaires. A physical examination should be performed to rule out other pathologies with compatible symptoms or to determine if there is a complicated UI, and to perform a urine test to rule out a urinary tract infection or hematuria. The goals of treatment are: to reduce involuntary urine loss, reduce associated symptoms such as increased urinary frequency, urinary urgency (UU) or nocturia, and improve quality of life.
