Abstract
Background. The objective of this paper
is to present the analysis of mortality in
Catalonia during 2018, including the
most significant mortality indicators in
health and health services and the
evolution of a few indicators in recent
years.
Data and Methods. Data corresponding
to deaths occurred in Catalonia during
2018 are obtained, for all live births, from
the Medical Certificate of Cause of
Death-Death Statistical Bulletin, and for
late fetal deaths from birth certificates.
The underlying cause of death was
coded according to ICD-10. Population
data is the postcensus estimation of
population in Catalonia on July 1, 2018.
Results. In Catalonia in 2018, there were
65,939 deaths among known-age
residents (49.97% women and 50.03%
men). Mortality was higher than the
previous year. However, agestandardised rate was the second lowest
since 1983; only the 2016 rate was
lower. Life expectancy at birth was 86.28
years for women and 80.76 years for
men.
