Catheter fistula; Posterior wall lesion; FAVn
The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the catheter fistula (CF) causes less damage to the posterior wall of the vessel compared to the conventional needle, using follow-up ultrasounds. In an 8-month controlled clinical trial of 10 patients with radiocephalic AVF with a 4-cm segment of arterial puncture, results showed that 40% of patients for whom a conventional needle was used had lesions, compared to 20% with CF. Lesions caused by the conventional needle persisted, while those produced by the CF disappeared. CF was confirmed to cause fewer lesions, which could prolong the life of arteriovenous fistulas and reduce the need for surgical interventions.
