Vacunes antipneumocòcciques
Abstract
Chapter 4.6 of the Manual de vacunacions de Catalunya. Antipneumococcal vaccines are inactivated vaccines that contain, as antigens, the purified capsular polysaccharides of a variable number of the pneumococcal serotypes that cause infections most frequently among the more than 90 known. Among the pneumococcal vaccines there are important differences depending on whether the polysaccharides are conjugated with carrier proteins or not. The non-conjugated vaccines, which were the first available, induce an immune response independent of T lymphocytes that does not generate memory and their revaccination does not have a booster effect. They are not indicated in children under 2 years of age, as they respond poorly or do not.
