Coneixements, pensaments i actituds respecte a la menopausa a L’Alt Empordà
Abstract
As a result of the rise in life expectancy, an increasing number of women spend a third of their lives in menopause. A period of hormonal decline with physical and emotional changes. National and international studies highlight that knowledge about menopause, practices related to it and existing supports are insufficient. The aim of this study is to have a representation adjusted to the reality of the knowledge, thoughts and attitudes associated with menopause that the population of Alt Empordà has. This is a descriptive observational study of the Alt Empordà population, over 16 years of age. A self-administered survey was used to collect the data. A total of 980 people started the survey, 794 completed it. 75.5% of the participants were from Alt Empordà, and the majority were female (92.6%) and with a higher level of education (64.7%). 69.76% claim to be going through or have gone through menopause. The results indicated that there is greater awareness of the symptoms and effects of menopause, as well as existing treatments. However, this knowledge does not depend on having gone through menopause or not. On the other hand, this last fact does significantly condition the thoughts and attitudes that people have in relation to the disappearance of the period in the context of menopause. People who have gone through menopause have a more positive perception and attitude compared to women who have not gone through it.
