Abstract
Peroneal tendon pathology is a cause of pain on the lateral aspect of the hindfoot that can easily go unnoticed. A thorough examination based on the alignment of the hindfoot, palpation of the retromalleolar groove and testing the stability of the ankle are essential to guide the diagnosis. Complementary tests (radiographs, ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging) will help us defining the type of injury (tendinopathy, instability or rupture) and the predisposing factors (accessory muscles, low lying muscle belly or characterize the morphology of the retromalleolar groove). Treatment must be individualized according to the characteristics of each patient, whether through conservative or surgical treatment; classically open or through less invasive techniques such as tenoscopy, which have gained more relevance.
