Podología oncológica: la alteración ungueal asociada al tratamiento de quimioterapia en el cáncer de mama
Abstract
To evaluate the frequency and impact of toenail changes in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, this observational study was conducted at Figueres Hospital. Fifty-one women participated, of whom 47.1% presented some type of nail involvement, the most common being onycholysis, onychogryphosis, and onychomadesis. The drugs most associated with these changes were paclitaxel and trastuzumab. A relevant finding is that 66.7% of patients were unaware that chemotherapy could cause these types of side effects. Despite this, the majority (85.7%) did not report limitations in their daily living activities, although 17.6% expressed concern and 13.7% expressed discomfort with the nail changes.
