Abstract
During the year 2011 in Catalonia there were 59,576 demises of resident people (50.9% men and 49.1% women). The last years the general mortality follows a quite stable downward trend and the expectation of life on being born and the expectation of life in good health increases slightly. In the total population for the first time the tumors (28.8%) have caused more demises than the cardiovascular diseases (28.5%). The rates of mortality standardized by age go down for both groups of causes, but they make it in a more stressed way for the diseases of the circulatory system. The mortality for suicides and for the rest group of external causes has increased (11% and 8%, respectively) and the mortality for traffic accidents has stabilized. The last three years, in a context of reduction in natality, the perinatal mortality has increased. According to the mortality standard rate, differences in the Catalan territory are observed for years with higher mortality in the Tarragona and Lleida Sanitary Regions and lower in the Barcelona Sanitary Region taking into account the global Catalonian population.
