Introduction: A screening programme for hearing loss is being implemented within the Catalan Public Hospital Network since 2010. In 2015 Decree 4/2015, of 13 January, was approved to extend a universal screening coverage. To implement it, different sessions were conducted for coordination and training was offered to a hundred percent of private healthcare centers. Objective: The objective is to assess the Early Hearing Loss Detection Programme through the process indicators and results describing the innovation with the recent addition of private centers (Decree 4/2015, of 13 January). Methods: Descriptive study of process indicators and results of the Early Hearing Loss Detection Programme in Catalonia record since the beginning – in 2010 – to 2015. Description of the extension process in the private centers network. Results: The number of screened newborns has passed from 9,178 (2010) to 44,632 (2015), which represents a 386% increase. In 2015, this represents a coverage of 91,7%. 468 cases were diagnosed (from 2010 to 2015) and 110 were diagnosed in 2014. In 2015 80 newborns were diagnosed with hearing loss (provisional data). Conclusions: The Programme presents good coverage in the Catalan Public Hospital Network, whilst in the private health network it is being fostered as a universal coverage public health programme. This initiative promotes that all the cases of newborns diagnosed with hearing loss are reported by private birth centers to the record, while public birth centers keep mantaining good coverage and reporting. There is good interaction among the different agents involved in the screening.
