Abstract
The aim of this paper is to describe the main results of the surveillance of notifiable diseases in Catalonia during 2017, presented in both tables and text form, after validation of cases reported by health professionals in Catalonia. This paper presents incidence rates for all diseases subject to surveillance. Incidence rate results are compared with those obtained in the five previous years. Finally this paper briefly comments of the behaviour of these diseases. In 2017, an outbreak of hepatitis A was detected among MSM that led to a substantial increase in the incidence of this disease in Catalonia. 2017 incidence rate multiplied by four that of 2016, increasing from 1.2 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2016 to 5 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2017). Legionellosis incidence also increased, going from 3.6 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2016 to 6 in 2017. Meningococcal disease also showed a rise. On the other hand, the age of administration of chickenpox vaccine was advanced in the vaccine schedule in 2016 and chickenpox experienced a significant decrease. Regarding the behaviour of sexually transmitted infections (STI) in Catalonia in 2017, the growing trend of Chlamydia trachomatis genital infection and gonococcal infection remained. Syphilis also increased, but mildly.
