Falls that people suffer when they reach old age have traditionally been considered inevitable accidents. Over the past twenty-five years, the practice of geriatrics has brought about a paradigm shift in the declines of the longest-lived population. From the age of 65, falls are the leading cause of people going to trauma emergencies. Generally, after such a fall the hip fracture occurs. In the economic field, we can talk about direct costs arising from the fall itself and indirect costs related to the consequences, both medical and social, which can have in the medium to long term. Faced with this situation, initiatives are emerging that seek to establish effective systems that reduce the clinical and economic impact of the falls of the older population. Most often, falls are associated with a number of risk factors, mainly osteoporosis. Therefore, it is a problem to which various preventive measures should be established. One of the preventative measures described and that could help prevent hip fracture from a fall are the so-called hip protectors. The Fall-Safe Assist is a device that is placed inside the hip protector to measure its movement and detect falls. The prevention of falls and, consequently, the prevention of hip fracture, has a multifactorial character. No consistent information is available to establish the use of a hip protector, with or without a Fall-Safe Assist device, as the only fall prevention measure. In the future, if research is carried out on this device and favorable results are obtained, the use of this preventive measure could be considered to be part of the guidelines for the prevention of falls and hip fractures. to at-risk populations, and thus improve rapid access to care, and also as part of the benefits catalogs of the National Health System. It is considered that the device could have an additional benefit if it did not depend on the protector, on which it has been observed that there are adhesion problems. For the time being, geriatric services should implement currently available preventive measures that take into account the risk factors associated with falls in the older population.
