Abstract
Introduction: the analysis of mortality in Catalonia during 2014 including mortality indicators useful for health and health services is presented.
Methods: data corresponding to deaths occurred in Catalonia during 2014 are obtained for all live births from the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death and the Deaths Statistical Bulletin, and for late fetal deaths from Birth certificates. Deaths and miscarriages. Underlying cause of death was coded according to ICD-10. Population data is the post-census estimation of population
in Catalonia on July 1, 2014.
Result: there were 60,730 deaths of residents in Catalonia in 2014 (50.3% men and 49.7% women). Life expectancy at birth is 80.5 years for men and 86.1 years for women. Tumor is the major cause of deaths, followed by cardiovascular diseases. Mortality due to external causes lowered, but suicide-associated mortality increased.
