Sistema de proyección de imagen de la luminiscencia de Cerenkov para evaluación intraoperatoria de márgenes quirúrgicos en cáncer de mama, próstata y gastrointestinal: ficha de evaluación de tecnologías nuevas y emergentes
The main objective of this report is to assess the effica y, effectiveness and safety of Cerenkov luminescence imaging system (CLI), an emerging new technology to delimit the tumor margins intraoperatively. This type of oncological surgery aims to resect a tumor mass with surgical free margins from cancer cells. An optimal reduction of surgical margins would allow avoiding recurrences, reinterventions as well as improving the prognosis of the disease. New research and new technologies, that allow a more precise delimitation of the neoplastic borders in an intervention, could give provide answers to unmet needs, and, consequently, cause an improvement and facilitate the management of certain types of cancer that affect a high proportion of the world population. A bibliographic research was carried out to identify ongoing or fin - shed clinical trials. One of the aspects to take into account to measure the safety of the CLI is the radiation received during the procedure. The introduction of new technology involves making changes at an organizational and/or structural level. This new technology is expected to get an improvement in the effectiveness of oncological surgery and a reduction in costs. It would be as a consequence of decreasing the number of surgeries due to recurrences or post-surgical treatments or due to insufficient surgical excision. Even so, in February 2018 the results of a clinical trial are expected to supply with reliable data on effica y, within a clinical studies program that is scheduled to be completed in 4 years. Therefore, final results of this study should be available before knowing if the use of this new emerging technology could cause relevant changes in the management of very severe diseases.
