Protocol to the study of sexual contacts of people diagnosed with STIs in Catalonia. This study is one of the main activities of epidemiological surveillance in public health, their purpose is to facilitate early diagnosis and timely treatment to prevent reinfection of the index case, reduce transmission in the community, in addition to help in the identification and reduction of epidemic outbreaks and to implement appropriate prevention and control measures to avoid secondary cases amongcontacts. It also has an ethical component, because it allows that exposed individuals can to know their risk situation. In public health, one of the main reasons to consider that a disease is notifiable is based on the existence of prevention measures that reduce transmission to contacts and thus avoid the appearance of new cases.
